Debuting in 2014, DIEALRIGHT exploded into the South Korean indie scene with their mix of garage rock and punk. Hard to box to just one genre, DIEALRIGHT aim to deliver a sound that encompasses raw emotion and many influences.
The trio formed of singer and guitarist Chae Sung Hwa, bass player Kim Seung Il and drummer Baek Soo Jung, played the Liverpool Sound City festival as part of the Zandari Showcase on Sunday, and are set to play two shows at Barcelona’s Primavera Sound on Friday and Saturday.
We spoke to DIEALRIGHT before they departed for the UK and Europe, here’s what they had to say.
DIEALRIGHT: Hi, BritROK readers. We are DIEALRIGHT from Korea. [Because we are completely independent] in most cases, Chae arranges the DIEALRIGHT schedule, while Baek leads all of the design stuff. Kim Seung Il (bassist) takes care of the small details in every DIEALRIGHT project. Nice to meet you.
Congratulations on being accepted to play Liverpool Sound City Music, and Primavera Sound. How did you feel when you find out DIEALRIGHT would be in the final line-up?
Every band member was working, so we texted each other. OMG. We are officially invited to two well-known music events in Europe. We couldn’t be more thrilled. Our priority is for us to appeal to the global music market as much as possible.
How would you explain the music of DIELARIGHT?
Almost every musician sings about somebody’s feelings, but we put more focus on raw feelings. Maybe we can say that DIEALRIGHT performs human instinct related stuff.

Where do you find inspiration for your music?
We get inspiration from anywhere. We can be inspired at home, or while walking, or maybe at the theatre. Sometimes we get nothing at all, though.
Are there any DIEALRIGHT songs you think of as favourites?
Chae Sung Hwa: It is very hard to pick one. I am attached to almost every DIEALRIGHT’s song. If I need to name my favorite no matter what, I would go for Satellite. It is the title of our very first EP album.
Baek Soo Jung: U.R.A. from the first full-length album Minor World. It is the first song we played on a keyboard. As its rhythm is very danceable, it is exciting to perform.
What have been the most memorable moments of your music careers with DIEALRIGHT so far?
Chae: Our showcase event for the first EP. So many people showed up. I would never have imagined that the event venue would be super packed.
Baek: Showcase event for our first full-length album Minor World. It was my “FINALLY” moment. FINALLY.
Kim: 2015 Zandari Festa. I got married and performed at Zandari stage on the same day. I was little tired, but it was fun.
Do you have any goals for your Europe tour?
It will be appreciated if everyone who dropped by our stage remembers that there is a band called DIELALRIGHT from KOREA. We are ready to promote our music as much as possible. Hopefully, this tour will be a meaningful step to get into the global music market.
We are looking for channels to reach out to global fans, and working on flyers to distribute. Hopefully, we can get closer through music, a.k.a. global language.
We hope more and more people enjoy DIEALRIGHT’s music.
