At the end of 2019, British indie label Damnably signed another Korean artist. Following the success of their work with Japanese all-female punk outfit Otoboke Beaver and Busan rockers Drinking Boys and Girls Choir, they have now signed Dogstar from Daegu.
The trio, noted to be one of the few ‘math rock’ groups from South Korea are set to release their debut outside of their home country. The release is a 2 X 12″ compilation featuring the debut EP “hello, cranky dear..” and LP “Ghetto Bounce On”.
Daegu’s 도그스타 / Dogstar self-titled 2X12″ compilation EP+LP. Limited to 300.
Releases Feb 7th.
This is the bands vinyl debut and features intense and heavy post punk/post rock from the Daegu trio who are not a million miles away from Shannon Wright, Shipping News or Bitch Magnet. Recorded live in a few hours, the trio feature siblings Sunmi and Junhyung Ryu with Andrew Blad on drums. Sunmi is a classical pianist so plays guitar in a unique way with the strangest chord patterns and minimal scary lyrics.
The band formed in 2002 and are quite unknown outside of Korea so when we stumbled on them it felt like unearthing a great lost legendary act but they were still active.
